Chapter 436 - 435: Why Haven’t You Called Me?
Damian Sinclair didn’t answer, just repeated his earlier words, "Let her go."
Archer Quinn wasn’t foolish. From Damian Sinclair’s attitude, he knew something was amiss.
Not only did he not release Bella Acker, but he tightened his grip instead, smiling gently, "I’ll take my friend home first; she’s drunk." After saying that, he ignored Damian Sinclair’s expression and half-carried the squinting Bella Acker out.
Damian Sinclair strode forward, blocking their path. Archer Quinn gave a barely noticeable frown, "Mr. Sinclair, what does this mean?"
"Mr. Quinn, you’re holding my fiancée and asking me what it means?" Damian Sinclair’s eyes suddenly showed a hint of sarcastic cold smile, "I was going to ask you, what do you mean?"
Indeed, he was the one Bella liked! Unexpectedly, the person Bella liked was Damian Sinclair.
Archer Quinn was very unsettled inside, but he still didn’t release Bella Acker’s waist.
The two men exchanged glances, one gentle and resolute, the other cold and domineering.
Bella Acker opened her eyes in a daze, took a while to focus, and when she saw Damian Sinclair in front of her, her eyes suddenly widened a bit, "Damian?"
Damian Sinclair looked at her.
Bella Acker looked at him, wanted to step forward, and only realized later that there seemed to be something on her waist.
She gently struggled a bit. Archer Quinn felt bitter and reluctant, but eventually let go of her.
Bella Acker took two steps to Damian Sinclair, looked up at him and asked, "Damian, how come you’re here? Did you come specifically to find me?"
"There’s a dinner gathering," Damian Sinclair said, "Why are you here?"
"Me?" Bella Acker was dizzy, thought for a moment before reacting slowly, "I... I’m also at a dinner gathering." Saying that, she raised her hand to rub her dizzy head and staggered again.
Archer Quinn instinctively stepped forward wanting to support her, but Damian Sinclair had already caught her first, asserting his claim as he pulled her into his embrace.
Archer Quinn paused, withdrew his hand somewhat bitterly, and said, "I’ll be outside. If Mr. Sinclair can’t take Bella home, call me." After saying that, he walked out.
Damian Sinclair didn’t answer, just looked down at the drunken woman in his arms, and asked in a deep voice, "Who gave you the alcohol?"
"Late... tardy, penalty... penalty," Bella Acker spoke with a bit of slurring, feeling the comforting aura in his embrace, she couldn’t help but nuzzle closer.
"Work?" The anger Damian Sinclair felt when Archer Quinn nearly kissed Bella Acker was real, but seeing Bella drunk, he knew it was only Archer Quinn acting unilaterally.
Even so, he was still quite displeased.
"Yes." Bella Acker buried her head in his chest, nodding, and asked with a muffled voice, "Why haven’t you called me yet?"
Upon hearing this, Damian Sinclair’s heart tightened. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to call, but he hadn’t found a good solution yet.
A way to avoid disappointing his family while fulfilling their relationship.
"I’m investigating matters from back then." Damian Sinclair was silent for a while before speaking, "After twenty years, many people in the know and evidence left from back then are hard to find; it requires some time."
He wasn’t sure if Bella Acker heard him, as there was no movement for a while.
Damian Sinclair looked down, finding her peacefully asleep in his arms.
After days of anxiety and unease, even drunk, she could only find peace in his embrace.
