Chapter 340 - 339: Seeing Dad and Mom
Aunt Sienna couldn’t resist her. "Alright, I’ll rest on the scarf here, you go up first. I’ll catch up once I’ve rested enough."
"Okay," Bella said. "Call me when you’re ready, and I’ll come get you."
Aunt Sienna nodded, "Go on, go on."
"Mm." Only then did Bella continue up on her own.
When she crossed over to look for those tombstones, Aunt Sienna took out a handkerchief from her pocket and muffled her cough.
"Cough, cough, cough!" She didn’t dare to cough too loudly for fear Bella might hear, so she tightly covered her mouth and suppressed the cough.
After a good while of coughing, Aunt Sienna moved the handkerchief away from her mouth, revealing a spread of bloodstains.
She had been coughing up blood for more than two months now, bearing it alone without telling anyone.
She was already old, with not much time left, and didn’t want to add to Bella’s burdens.
If Bella knew she was sick, she would definitely take her to the hospital, just like she did with the director back then.
Though she didn’t know exactly what Bella had done to raise such a sum of money, it was surely not a good method.
There’s no such thing as a free lunch, and there’s no way Bella, just a young girl, could suddenly earn hundreds of thousands. Bella wouldn’t say, so they could only endure the heartache and pretend to know nothing to spare her any more worry.
But since then, Bella had moved out from the orphanage. When she came back, she was picked up, and then there was Mr. Sinclair.
Aunt Sienna, having gone through some things herself, guessed that Bella probably sold herself to raise money for the director’s treatment.
So even though Mr. Sinclair treated Bella well, Aunt Sienna could only regard him with respect rather than any closeness.
Aunt Sienna sighed, wiping her mouth with the handkerchief, muttering to herself, "Before I die, I have to hurry up and find suitable adoptive families for Ethan and the others. Bella has suffered so much with us, she should be able to live a more comfortable life from now on."
Thinking of this, Aunt Sienna’s eyes reddened.
She was old, no longer afraid of dying, but she couldn’t bear to leave Bella.
Once she was gone, Bella would have no elders or family left, what would she do when she got married?
Aunt Sienna took a deep breath, wiped away the tears spilling over, rested for a while longer, and then gathered her strength to continue upward.
Bella counted along above and found her parents’ tombstone at the thirteenth spot Aunt Sienna mentioned.
In the photo on the tombstone, both of them still appeared young. Her father looked upright and had a determined gaze, clearly not the type to do bad things. Her mother had a gentle expression, a graceful demeanor between her brows, and was a truly beautiful woman.
She seemed to have inherited none of the good genes from her father and mother, barely resembling them. Rather, she looked more like the director and Aunt Sienna, with features that mirrored them from living together for so long.
Bella took out the items for the memorial and was puzzled by the fresh bouquet of flowers in front of the tombstone.
"Did friends of mom and dad come to pay respects?" Bella examined the bouquet; it was quite fresh, placed there no more than two days ago.
Bella set the bouquet down and didn’t dwell on it, starting to clean the tombstone.
Aunt Sienna also noticed the bouquet of fresh flowers, and couldn’t help but express her curiosity, "Eh? Who could have visited?"
"Aunt Sienna, haven’t anyone visited my parents before?" Bella looked up and asked.
