Chapter 419 - 418: Proposal
Chapter 419 - 418: Proposal
Why did he give her such a sum of money?
Perhaps it was because, even though she was clearly scared to death, her forced courage moved him?
Maybe it was the simplicity and sincerity in her eyes?
Or was it just curiosity to see how far a young girl would go to save someone?
Now, looking back, Damian Sinclair himself can’t remember why he was willing to spend that much money to buy Bella Acker’s ten years.
But as it turned out, that little bit of pity he felt was absolutely right. Otherwise, he and Bella might never have crossed paths in their lifetime.
Damian’s expression softened, and he held her hand, saying, "I really don’t know."
"Hehe, did you fall in love with me at first sight back then?" Bella asked, smiling up at him.
"You were as skinny as a stick at that time; what do you think?" Damian glanced at her.
Bella huffed disdainfully, "Hmph, Damian, I didn’t expect you to be so superficial."
"I’m just being responsible for our future children." There was a glint of amusement in Damian’s eyes as he stepped forward and wrapped her in his arms, saying, "They don’t have to look like me, looking like you is fine."
"No, it’s better if they look like you..." Bella’s words were cut short as Damian suddenly lifted her hand and slipped something onto her ring finger.
Bella paused, raising her hand towards the glass wall and the light filtering through. She realized that it was a ring slipping onto her finger, glimmering with a hint of silver light.
"Damian..." Bella pulled away from his embrace, turning around to look at him in surprise.
"Engagement ring." Damian raised his hand, and only then did Bella notice a matching men’s ring on his finger.
A warm current surged in Bella’s heart, her eyes moistened slightly.
She clasped her fingers, gently stroking the ring with her fingertip, and lowered her head slightly, murmuring, "Is this your proposal? There’s no candlelit dinner, no roses, and no kneeling on one knee. It’s nothing like the novels describe."
"Stop reading those books that corrupt the minds of children." Damian said, "If you don’t like it, then just take the ring off..."
"No!" Before he could finish, Bella, as if guarding a treasure, hid her hand with the ring behind her back, saying, "You’ve already put it on me, there’s no returns even if you regret it now!"
"Silly girl, who wants a return?" Damian chuckled, pulling her back into his arms, and said, "I just meant, if you like that kind of proposal, I can redo it."
"No need." Bella nestled in his embrace, nuzzling her head against his chest, and said, "This is perfect."
Compared to those ethereal promises, being his fiancée and receiving his affection and pampering is enough.
In his arms, Bella’s eyes grew hot, tears rolled down her cheeks, soaking into his clothes.
Damian said nothing, merely tightening his arms around her.
Hugging his waist, Bella said, "Damian, I must have saved the universe in my past life to be so lucky to meet you in this one."
"Silly girl, if anyone saved the universe, it’s me." Damian cupped her face, gently wiping away her tears, and lowered his head to kiss her.
Her positive outlook and courage in the face of challenges never lead her to despair.
To Damian Sinclair, she was like a breath of fresh air, bringing life to his otherwise calm and uneventful life.
