Chapter 208: Moonclaw Severance (01)
"She’s doing well... I tried teaching her ice, nature, wind, and fire magic. She’s only mediocre at the others, but from the notes in my grimoire, I can tell she’s a genius when it comes to her affinity for fire.
Her healing magic is also strong, just not as polished as her fire," Alice replied, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
She, with her SS-Rank talent, was a genius across every discipline.
Thanks to the spellbook left by the master of the Brown Mages’ Tower, she had managed to study practically everything.
The author had been a mage at the peak of the sixth stage, with mastery over basically every type of non-demonic magic. As a result, there wasn’t a single magical discipline that wasn’t taught to some extent within those pages.
Still, Alice focused mainly on ice, fire, and healing, along with buffs and defensive and mobility spells.
The only type of magic she hadn’t delved into yet was spatial magic. Studying it before the fifth stage was simply pointless, and the Brown Mage Tower master’s own notes made that very clear.
That man had likely been an SSS-Rank talent. If even he couldn’t study something like that before the fifth stage, Alice wouldn’t be able to either.
After pondering that for a moment longer, Ethan let out a small sigh. He leaned in toward Alice and sealed her lips with a sweet, lingering kiss.
"Keep teaching Veronica well. She’ll be very important to Goldenveil, especially since, in the future, I plan to build a mage tower to train the children with an affinity for magic.
The two of you together should be more than enough to start teaching them."
Upon hearing that, Alice nodded excitedly, her eyes shining with enthusiasm.
The thought of becoming the master of a mage tower, and above all, the teacher who would instruct every child of Goldenveil with magic potential, thrilled her immensely.
After all, what she wanted most was to be useful to her husband and help with Goldenveil’s development.
Her work in the spirit greenhouse was already his greatest source of wealth; she knew that well. But deep down, she could always do more, couldn’t she?
Being the progenitor of the entire future of magic education in Goldenveil was an idea that warmed her heart with pure excitement.
"I’ll do my best, husband!" she declared enthusiastically.
After exchanging a few cuddles with Ethan, she set off after Veronica.
Now alone, the handsome young man let out a long sigh and lifted his gaze to the sky.
It was already past noon, and the sky was closing in again, gray clouds gathering little by little.
Would there be another snowstorm?
He didn’t know, and he didn’t dwell on it either.
Focusing his mind, he pulled an item from his inventory: the Rank A skill, Moonclaw Severance.
He had planned to study it across the rest of winter, but for better or worse, this one happened to be an instant-learn skill.
The good part was that he wouldn’t have to spend months poring over its pages. The bad part was that, to pass it on later, he’d have to create a copy in another book.
Still, copying the skill was much faster than mastering it from scratch using a ready-made version. There wasn’t much to complain about.
Letting out another sigh, he held the book firmly in his hands and opened it.
In the next instant, a silvery light engulfed the training arena. Four distinct strands took shape within the glow, swirling outward before flying straight toward Ethan’s head.
A groan of pain escaped his lips.
The surrounding temperature shot up all at once, melting the last patches of snow that had lingered after Alice and Veronica’s training.
It was strange to have so much information thrust into his mind at once, but he held his ground, doing his best to take it all in.
Finally, he managed to open his eyes.
A faint pulse of aura spread through the arena, and he let out a sigh of relief.
His eyes gleamed as he drew his elven sword.
He was ready to test the ability right then and there, but after a moment’s thought, he decided to head somewhere more secluded.
He didn’t want to damage his arena.
With a light push from his feet, he leaped onto the mansion’s roof. From there, he set off at a brief run, putting a few hundred meters between himself and the settlement.
Coming to a halt, he inhaled and exhaled at a steady rhythm, the icy air filling his lungs as he carefully prepared his body.
Martial techniques required three central pillars.
Focus, intention, and control.
Focus was the foundation of everything: a mind concentrated on a single goal. It was a bit difficult to acquire at first, but once mastered, it came naturally.
Intention was the visualization of the technique. It allowed one to control the power and the intensity, and, above all, it was what truly defined the technique itself.
The focus for each technique was always the same, but the intention varied.
When a writer composed a book about their technique, it was the intention they wrote about, the way to invoke it.
That was why it was always said that Aura represented the heart, while Mana represented the brain.
That was also the reason aura sorcerers were so limited compared to mages.
While an aura sorcerer used the intent in their heart to create a fire attack, a mage relied on nothing but physics and mana itself.
Spells, in essence, were mathematical formulas. That was why mages were considered students of the arcane.
They created formulas that, at their core, shaped the laws of the universe to their will. With them, they could do everything from reviving the dead to conjuring a fireball or healing a small cut.
A warrior, with enough power, could bring down an entire mountain with a single blow. But only a mage would be able to rebuild it with a single spell.
The final pillar of a technique was, naturally, control.
The way Aura was moved and distributed throughout the body was just as important as visualization in creating a unique technique.
Letting out a sigh, Ethan shook his head and readied his sword.
It was time to find out if that Rank A skill was really worth it.
