Chapter 377: Dashing Identity
Chapter 377: Dashing Identity
Susan Caldwell appeared incredibly enthusiastic at that moment, yet she also projected an air of reservation and dignity. Her voice and body language were perfectly calibrated—she was cultured, well-mannered, and beautiful.
Nathaniel Nathan, however, didn’t even glance at Susan Caldwell. He walked directly to Vera Xavier’s side and stared at her, his face cold and expressionless. She, in turn, wore a look of utter dejection. If the calm, sharp woman from before had been an eagle, then the woman now was a little quail—impossibly docile.
His aura was immense. From the moment he entered, all eyes were on him. To any keen observer, the way the two of them looked meant that Vera Xavier had done something to wrong Nathaniel Nathan.
Susan Caldwell saw this as a golden opportunity to make an impression on Nathaniel Nathan. She said earnestly, "Sir, you should probably stay away from this young lady. She’s very likely a drug dealer’s woman."
"A drug dealer’s woman?" Nathaniel Nathan’s eyes narrowed slightly. He immediately recalled the words Jack Judd had said to him earlier. He shot a sideways glance at Susan Caldwell, his eyes utterly devoid of warmth.
Leo Wright’s senses were far sharper; he detected the killing intent radiating from Nathaniel Nathan. His heart leaped in alarm, and he wanted to pull Susan Caldwell behind him for protection, but his hand was injured. Susan, however, didn’t sense Nathaniel’s murderous aura at all. Instead, she took a step closer to him.
Susan Caldwell nodded and said, "Drug dealer activity has been rampant lately. This young lady may look gentle and harmless, but the officer just determined that even if she isn’t a drug dealer herself, she’s likely a drug dealer’s woman. That makes her very dangerous. You should stay away from her."
Nathaniel Nathan actually laughed in exasperation at her words. ’Vera Xavier is a drug dealer’s woman? Then wouldn’t that make me the drug dealer?’
’This was, without a doubt, the most ridiculous joke he had ever heard!’
Hearing Susan Caldwell’s reckless words, Vera Xavier wondered, ’Should I keep playing the part of the docile little quail, or switch to a pitiful little kitten?’ She gently tugged on Nathaniel Nathan’s sleeve and said, "I’m not a drug dealer’s woman."
Nathaniel Nathan turned to glance at her. She looked both docile and wronged, and she even gave a little shrug. ’She honestly had no idea Susan Caldwell had assigned her such a badass identity.’
’But she knew in her heart that now that he was here, she could just leave these trivial matters for him to handle. All she had to do was cheer for him from the sidelines.’
The look in his eyes softened. Faced with this side of her, he had absolutely no resistance. No matter how angry he was, there was no way for him to vent it.
When Susan Caldwell saw Vera Xavier tugging on Nathaniel Nathan’s sleeve, she felt as if another woman was sullying her idol. She immediately reached out and slapped Vera’s hand away, then declared with righteous indignation, "Her hands are probably covered in drugs! She’s trying to drag you down with her!"
After speaking, she looked at Vera Xavier—who had been uncharacteristically docile ever since Nathaniel Nathan arrived—and said coldly, "It doesn’t matter how pitiful you act now; it won’t change the fact that you’re a drug trafficker. You’re so beautiful and seem so gentle. Why would you get involved in such a wicked business?"
She sighed and glanced over at Director Lewis, who was standing by without taking any action.
Nathaniel Nathan’s eyes narrowed.
Seeing Susan Caldwell’s actions, Leo Wright sighed inwardly. He watched Nathaniel Nathan warily. Others might not have gotten a clear look at Nathaniel Nathan taking down the three robbers earlier, but he had seen it perfectly. ’That kind of reaction speed and accuracy... it’s absolutely terrifying!’
